How much does an SMT stencil cost?

A laser-cut SMT stencil from us starts at US$6.00 for a 100 × 100 mm frameless foil and US$10.50 for the smallest framed size. Most production stencils fall between $10 and $53 depending on frame size; finishing, turnaround and quantity adjust the total, and freight is quoted with your order.

These are our published starting prices for standard laser cutting — the same numbers the instant quote tool uses. Every price covers cutting the foil, checking the apertures against your file, and packing. The last two columns show the per-stencil price at our quantity breaks, for identical stencils from the same Gerber, size and finish.

What changes the price
Five things move the number, in roughly this order of impact:
- Frame size and type — the aluminium frame and the foil area are the biggest single factor. Frameless foils are the cheapest; large frames like 400 × 1500 mm cost more than a 370 × 470.
- Surface finishing — electropolishing adds US$2 per stencil; nano coating starts at US$20 per stencil.
- Turnaround — 48-hour and 24-hour production carry no surcharge. Same-day 2-hour emergency dispatch adds 20%.
- Quantity — cutting identical stencils from one prepared file gets cheaper per piece the more you run: 5, 10 and 25 pieces earn 5%, 10% and 15% off.
- Freight — international courier, quoted together with your order so you see the full cost before paying.
How this compares with buying locally
Suppliers list laser-cut stencils across a very wide range — from around $3 for the smallest online-platform foils to $200 for large framed production orders, depending on size, finish and turnaround. The like-for-like comparison that matters is the same size, same finish, same deadline: a 584 × 584 mm framed stencil is $21 from us at standard production. The trade-off is transit time — courier from China typically adds some days, which is why we keep 48-hour and 24-hour production free for orders where it matters.
What is not included
Freight is quoted separately with your order — tell us the destination when you enquire and we confirm it before you pay. Import duties or taxes at your end are your responsibility. Design changes after the foil is cut mean a new stencil, so we confirm the file before starting.
How to get an exact price
For standard stencils, pick your specifications on the quote page and the price updates as you go — no signup, no waiting. For step stencils, custom frame sizes or anything unusual, send the Gerber file and we quote from the actual board, usually within the same working day.
Common questions
Do you charge a setup or tooling fee?
No. The price covers cutting the foil, checking the apertures against your file, and packing. There is no separate setup, file-preparation or NRE charge — the price you see is the price for the stencil.
Does the price include shipping?
No — freight depends on the destination and the packed weight, so it is quoted together with your order. The reference weights in the table above let you estimate it early, and we confirm the exact figure before you pay.
Why do bigger quantities cost less per stencil?
Once your file is prepared and the machine is set up, additional identical stencils are quick to produce — so the per-piece price drops at 5, 10 and 25 pieces. The discount applies to identical stencils: same Gerber, same size, same finish.
When is a step stencil worth the extra cost?
When your board mixes fine-pitch SMD parts with large through-hole joints or big pads. One board then needs two paste volumes, which a single foil thickness cannot deliver — a step stencil does it in one print instead of two passes. Step stencils are priced from the file; send the Gerber and we quote the same working day.
